Halloween Fun

As expected, the kids LOVED Halloween this year. Abby and Sarah chose to dress up as pirates, so of course Katie wanted to be one as well. We couldn't find a costume that we all liked, so one day the four of us went to the fabric store, found an adorable pattern, and HOURS of labor later I finished making their costumes. Luckily, the kids were able to wear their costumes to several Halloween activities and got some good use out of them. They also enjoyed decorating a haunted gingerbread house, making and decorating cookies, and carving pumpkins. They were sad when I told them that Halloween was over tonight. Now, if I could only get them to decide what they want to be for Halloween next year I would start their costumes now and save myself some late nights of sewing ...

They are growing up quickly

Each day, I am amazed at how much my kids change. They are doing and learning so many new things. Here are a few that I've captured recently.

Abby riding her bike

Katie helping with the laundry by matching socks

Katie doing the dishes (She did a VERY nice job!)

Sarah raking up pine needles

Abby and Sarah proudly displaying "Beezus and Ramona," the first longer chapter book that they just finished reading (or listening to me read to them). They loved it so much that they checked out "Ramona the Pest" at the library today.

Abby reading "Once Upon a Potty" to Katie as Katie willingly sits on the little potty. There's still hope that she will be potty trained by 3, but I'm not holding my breath. She's a stubborn one with this!

Katie practicing her somersault (Some of you may recall the video clip in this post where Katie spent the entire time trying to do a somersault.)

Sarah practicing her handstand

Other things that I don't have pictures for
  • Katie is becoming less shy outside of the house and using her vast vocabulary more often with other people.

  • After trying so hard to teach good manners since before they could even talk, Sarah has become quite the little lady recently with her "please" and "thank you." Finally!!!

  • All three girls amaze me in the pool, especially for kids who don't have a pool in their backyard like Kyle and I always did. Keep it up ladies!

Just thought this was cute

So, all three girls are sharing a room while we are staying with Grandma and Grandpa. Shortly after tucking them in last night I heard Abby and Sarah saying, "Get back in bed. Get back in bed right now, Katie, or I'm calling Mom!!!" I decided to enter the room and have a word with Katie. Sarah was quick to tell me, "Katie was saying 'Let's sneak out,' but I told Abby not to listen to her." I think Katie is going to give us some trouble as she gets older, but lucky for me she has a sister or two to tattle on her.
