Random Act of Kindness

It has been a long week for me, so, when Kyle came home from work tonight and I had no clue what we were going to eat for dinner, I suggested that we just go out to eat (something we rarely do). During dinner, we had to keep reminding the girls to talk more quietly, sit down, and stop peeking at the other diners in the booths next to us. When we were done eating, our waitress informed us that those same people in the booth next to us who had no doubt heard and saw our kids throughout their entire meal had picked up our bill as a "random act of kindness." We were shocked to say the least. We did our best to use it as a teaching moment for the kids and tried to explain what an incredibly nice thing this was for someone to do for us. It made me think that although I do special things for the people I know, we should really try to do more random acts of kindness for strangers as well. It would be a great thing to teach the kids at such a young age. So, to the "older party of four" (as the waitress put it, I honestly never got a good look at them) at Strombolli's tonight who paid our tab, THANK YOU! Your random act of kindness will be passed along.

Twin Bond

This isn't the first time that I've woken Abby and Sarah up from a nap to find them snuggled together, but it still melts my heart each time I do. Yes, they have their moments when they don't want to share and get upset with each other, but overall they get along quite well and love each other to death. The other day they even picked out the exact same shirt to wear to school the next day, not knowing what the other had picked. It was a shirt that they hadn't worn in months and the only shirt that they had to choose from that we have two of. There's just something about twins. :)

At least they listen to some of what I say

Earlier this evening, Jester and Antra were tugging over Jester's favorite woolly man toy (aka his pacifier). Katie promptly said, "Antra trade!" In my attempt to teach the kids to share, one thing I've tried to teach them is to offer to trade a toy for another one that they want. Sounds like Katie is learning. It was very cute! Now, if she could just apply it to her own battles ...

Fall Hike

It was rather cold here this weekend, but we bundled up and went for a hike anyway. Actually, with a jacket and hat it was quite comfortable and well worth it to see the fall leaves.

Weekend in Phoenix

We went to Phoenix this past weekend for Owen's 3rd birthday party. The kids all had fun playing and visiting with family.

Nap?

Abby and Sarah came out of their room during their "nap" today to show me something that they had made for me. Using everything within reach they made a "leaf pile" on their bed and were quite proud of it. Sarah insisted that if we used every toy in the house we could make it go all the way up to the ceiling. Probably true, but we aren't even going to attempt it! So much for quiet naptime ...
