Star of the Week
Katie was "Star of the Week" in her classroom this week. Today, I was able to spend some time with Katie's class during "family time." We read Katie's favorite book, The Three Little Tamales, and shared a snack with the class.

Celebrating Katie's Birthday
Katie was happy to celebrate her birthday with Dad at school.
This year, Katie wanted to have a Lego themed birthday party at the bowling alley.

Happy 6th Birthday, Katie!
My little Katie turns six years old today. Where has the time gone? Just the other day we watched the girls' "baby videos" full of early pictures and videos. Katie has grown up in so many ways since I put that video together five years ago to celebrate her first birthday.
Katie is a complex child who never ceases to amaze me. She looks so young yet is so grown-up in many ways. She has the ability to make me angry and make me smile at the same time. She disagrees just to disagree. Katie can be needy and wants her time with Mom, yet she is quite independent as well. One minute Katie is talking like a baby and the next she is effortlessly listing the names of all 25 students in her kindergarten class ... in alphabetical order! So shy and quiet in public, Katie loves to be the center of attention at home and literally has to be in the middle of everything. She still has her stubborn and defiant moments for sure, but she can also be the best little helper. All of these characteristics are what make Katie so special to me. I have enjoyed watching her slowly open up more at school this year, and I hope that as time goes on more and more people will have the opportunity to get to know the complete Katie that we love so much. Snow Day #3
Yesterday was another snow day for the girls, and surprisingly one for me as well. During all of my years at NAU I vaguely recall getting one snow day during grad school. I was just as excited as the girls to have the day off! Today was a delayed start as well. Only downside to the snowy weather is that Kyle has been out of town so I was left to do all of the shoveling by myself.
Another Goodbye
Kyle's grandmother, Muriel, passed away last night. While it is sad to see her go and we will all miss her, she had been ill for awhile and it is comforting to know that she is in a better place now.
